IBF and WBO junior featherweight titleholder Nonito Donaire recently completed a month-long stint in his native Philippines filming of the movie Palad Ta Ang Nagbuot during which he portrays a poor young man who is driven by his love for a woman.

The film, which roughly translates into “Fate Will Decide,” or, “Our Fate Decides,” is a remake of a 1960s movie starring Flash Elorde, a legendary Filipino boxer who preceeded Manny Pacquiao as a hero.

“Nonito is the main character and star of the independent movie. The movie will be in Visayan, Nonito’s dialect from the Philippines, but will be subtitled in English,” said Gilbert Martinez, Donaire’s business officer, of a movie that was shot from late July through early August in the Philippines.

“The movie is about an underprivileged young man trying to make ends meet and gets inspired to find a steady career to provide for his love interest. When tragedy hits the main character, Nonito finds any way to save his love interest.”

Donaire offers his own interpretation of the drama.

“The gist of the movie is that it’s about this man who is really poor, and he’s a jack of all trades, so he goes from working one job to another in the market place and stuff like that. He’s trying to be the best person that he can be, and he’s trying to make the girl his girl,” said Donaire.

“But he’s going to need money to save someone’s life, and he’s willing to do anything for the cause. It’s what people go through in life. There are a lot of people in the Philippines who have to endure this kind of life. There’s going to be drama and excitement and some comedy, but the whole thing is about having faith.”

In the meantime, Donaire (29-1, 18 knockouts) is in training for an HBO-televised clash with Japanese veteran Toshiaki Nishioka (39-4-3, 24 KOs) at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., on Oct. 13, with former lightweight beltholder Brandon Rios making his junior welterweight debut against Mike Alvarado on the undercard.

NSAC ASSIGNS REFEREES, JUDGES TO SEPT. 8 RANDALL BAILEY-DEVON ALEXANDER CARD

The Showtime-televised clash between IBF welterweight beltholder Randall Bailey Bailey (43-7, 37 KOs) and former IBF and WBC junior welterweight titleholder Devon Alexander (23-1, 13 KOs) will be refereed by Jay Nady and judged by Dick Houck, Dave Moretti and Patricia Morse Jarman from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

On the undercard of Bailey-Alexander, which is being promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Lou DiBella Entertainment, the junior welterweight fight between Lucas Matthysse (31-2, 29 KOs) and Nigerian southpaw Ajose Olusegun (30-0, 14 KOs) will be refereed by Russell Mora and judged by Adalaide Byrd, Roberty Hoyle and Jerry Roth.

OFFICIALS ALSO CHOSEN FOR LAS VEGAS-BASED SEPT. 15 BOXING SHOWS

For the HBO-televised, Top Rank clash between WBC middleweight beltholder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-0-1, 32 KOs) and RING champion Sergio Martinez (49-2-2, 28 KOs) from The Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, the the referee will be Tony Weeks, and the judges, Byrd, Moretti and Stanley Christodoulou.

The Chavez Jr.-Martinez undercard may also feature WBA junior featherweight beltholder and two-time Olympic gold medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux (10-0, 8 KOs) defending against Robert Marroquin (22-1, 15 KOs), although that fight is in jeoparty due to litigation involving Rigondeaux.

If Rigondeaux-Marroquin does happen, however, it will be refereed by Robert Byrd and judged by Hoyle, Glenn Feldman and Ricardo Ocasio.

The referee will be Mora, and the judges, Duane Ford, Lisa Giampa and Clark Sammartino for the matchup between junior lightweight Roman “Rocky” Martinez (25-1-1, 16 KOs) against Miguel Beltran Jr. (27-1, 17 KOs) for the WBO’s vacant belt.

Referee Joe Cortez will handle the Showtime-televised main event featuring WBC junior middleweight titleholder Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (40-0-1, 29 KOs) opposite Josesito Lopez (30-4, 18 KOs) from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with the judges being Burt Clements, Dick Flaherty and Glenn Trowbridge.

Referee Kenny Bayless and judges Houck, Roth and David Sutherland have been assigned to
the clash featuring WBC featherweight beltholder Jhonny Gonzalez (52-7, 45 KOs) in pursuit of his 13th straight win and his 12th knockout during that run in his fifth defense against former 122-pound titleholder Daniel Ponce de Leon (43-4, 35 KOs).

The IBF bantamweight title bout matching Mexican-born beltholder Leo Santa Cruz (20-0-1, 11 KOs), of Lincoln Heights, Calif., and Puerto Rican-born veteran contender Eric Morel (46-3, 23 KOs), of Madison, Wis., will be be handled by referee Vic Drakulich and judges Morse Jarman, Alan Davis and C.J. Ross.

CHAVEZ JR., MARTINEZ, ANDRE WARD-CHAD DAWSON FEATURED ON HBO ON SATURDAY NIGHT

HBO’s 24/7: Road to to Ward-Dawson will debut on Saturday starting at midnight ET/PT, featuring the Sept. 8 clash between RING light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-1, 17 KOs) and RING super middleweight champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KOs), the latter of whom will defend his RING, WBA and WBC belts from Oracle Arena in Ward’s hometown of Oakland, Calif.

Chavez Jr. will also be featured on HBO’s 2 Days: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on Saturday, starting at 12:30 a.m. ET/PT., followed by HBO’s Face Off With Max Kellerman: Chavez Jr.-Martinez at 12:45 a.m. ET/PT.
