Daniel Franco in coma after suffering brain bleeds
Featherweight standout Daniel Franco suffered two brain bleeds in a loss Saturday and underwent emergency surgery at a nearby hospital.
The 25-year-old is currently in a medically induced coma. Franco was knocked out by Jose Haro in Round 8 of a bout in Sloan, Iowa, on CBS Sports Network.
“The doctors have told us the next 48 hours will be critical in regards to him making a complete recovery,” Franco’s manager, Ray Chaparro, said in a statement. “We ask for prayers from the boxing community at this time.”
Franco (16-2-3, 11 knockouts) was previously knocked out by Christopher Martin in March, his first career defeat.
“Roc Nation’s thoughts and prayers are with Daniel Franco and his family during this critical recovery period,” Michael Yormark, Roc Nation President and Chief of Branding and Strategy. “He is a tenacious talent and champion, and will always have our support.”
