Another chapter in the rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico will highlight tonight’s ProBox TV card.

Junior lightweights Orlando Gonzalez and Jorge Castaneda will square off in a 10-round bout at the Whitesands (also known as the ProBox TV) Events Center in Plant City, Florida.

The fight will stream live on the ProBox TV YouTube page and app. (8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT).

At Tuesday’s weigh-in, Gonzalez came in at the junior lightweight limit of 130 pounds. Castaneda weighed in at 128.8 pounds.

Throughout the years, whether it is a world title fight or a six-round bout on a club show, clashes between fighters from Mexico and Puerto Rico have produced action-packed fights.

Senior producer Chris Glover believes tonight’s bout between Gonzalez and Castaneda will live up to, or even exceed, expectations of a quality and action fight.

“Castaneda and Gonzalez is a classic bout between boxer and fighter,” Glover told The Ring Tuesday. “In his last fight, Gonzalez was in one of the best fights you’ll ever see. He came to fight and boxed very well that night. Castaneda sees some holes in Gonzalez and he’s going to try and apply his style and pressure the fight. But Gonzalez can fight when he has pressure applied to him.

“So, stylistically, this is a really solid match-up.”

The fight Glover was referring to in regards to Gonzalez was his clash against Ramiro Cesena on July 26. It was a solid fight, with great exchanges and ebbs-and-flows, which Gonzalez won by unanimous decision in a close fight.

Gonzalez (21-2, 12 KOs), who resides in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, was also victorious in his previous fight on March 11, defeating Rodrigo Guerrero by decision over eight one-sided rounds. Gonzalez has won his last three fights since a unanimous decision loss to Misael Lopez on September 23 of last year.

The 28-year-old southpaw also has a loss to Robeisy Ramirez in September 2021.

Castaneda (16-2, 12 KOs) scored an eighth round knockout win over Nestor Medellin in his last bout on August 19. The win over the previously-unbeaten Medellin took place in Castaneda’s hometown of Laredo, Texas.

The win over Medellin took place 14 months after Castaneda was knocked out in the opening round by former world title challenger Eduardo ‘Rocky’ Hernandez. The 27-year-old does have wins over Youssef Khoumari and Otha Jones, III, both of whom entered their respective fights against Castaneda unbeaten.

In the co-main event, Marcelino Lopez (37-3-1, 22 KOs) of Argentina will face unbeaten Tarik Zaina (12-0-1, 8 KOs) in a 10-round welterweight bout.

Zaina is originally from Tangiers, Morocco, moved to the United Kingdom and now lives and trains in Tijuana, Mexico.

“The co-main event bout between Marcelino Lopez and Tarik Zaina is going to be a banger,” said Glover. “They’re not going to take a backward step.”
