Unbeaten lightweight Abdullah Mason has impressively passed each test thus far as a pro.

Although it is still early in his career, one has to wonder how talented and successful can Mason be once he hits the peak of his career.

Mason will face late-sub Mike Ohan, Jr. Saturday night at Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Canada. The eight-round bout will be part of the Top Rank undercard that will stream live on ESPN+ (5 p.m. ET/ 2 p.m. PT).

Top Rank’s Bob Arum believes Mason has not only yet hit his ceiling, but has the capacity to become one of the all time great fighters in the sport. The 20-year-old Mason (14-0, 12 knockouts), who resides in Cleveland, Ohio, has emerged as one of the company’s stellar young fighters after dominating and knocking out modest opposition thus far.

“When you sign a kid like that, you put him in his first fight, you know he looks really good in the amateurs and he looks good in the gym,” Arum told The Ring in a recent interview. “But how will he perform once he’s a professional and fighting all of these different fighters? And he’s surpassed anything we (have) imagined. He’s a tremendous fighter. He could be one of the all-time greats.

“I mean, this is early. Let’s see how he develops. But all the ingredients are there. He’s certainly very talented. He comes from a good family background. His father is a terrific guy. All the brothers are very supportive. So we have high hopes that he’ll be a major star in the years ahead.”

The southpaw Mason last fought on July 6, scoring an impressive third-round knockout win over fringe contender Luis Lebron, who had entered the fight having never been knocked out. Mason dropped Lebron a total of three times. In his previous fight on April 13, Mason dropped Ronal Ron multiple times before ending matters in four.

Mason has demonstrated devastating knockout power, including his February 8 fight against Benjamin Gurment, scoring a highlight-reel knockout win in round two. Last year, Mason fought five times.

The fight against Ohan will mark his fourth of this year. At Thursday’s press conference, Mason expressed his hope to, barring an injury, fight at least one more time before the end of 2024.

Ohan (19-2, 9 KOs) has not fought since August 11 of last year, when he defeated Harry Gigliotti by unanimous decision in Quincy, Massachusetts, now far from his hometown of Holbrook. In his previous fight, which took place two months prior to the win over Gugliotti, Ohan defeated journeyman William Parra Smith by decision.

Ohan has won his last three fights since losing by knockout to Delonte ‘Tiger’ Johnson in December 2022.

The Mason-Ohan fight will be fought at a catchweight of 137 pounds.
