WBO light heavyweight titleholder Sergey Kovalev's seventh-round knockout of Cedric Agnew on Saturday on HBO drew 1,006,000 viewers, representing the third highest boxing rating on cable television this year, according to Nielsen Media research.
The audience for Kovalev-Agnew peaked at 1,048,000 on a night when Wisconsin edged Arizona, 64-63, in overtime to reach the Final Four of the NCAA's college basketball tournament. Wisconsin-Arizona averaged 9.9 million viewers, the largest ever for a college basketball game on cable television.
The average audience for Kovalev-Agnew was on par with the average viewership for the HBO Boxing After Dark series in 2014, which was 1,012,000.
