Weigh-in Alert: Christian Mbilli 167.4, Sergiy Derevyanchenko 167.3
QUEBEC CITY –Christian Mbilli and Sergiy Derevyanchenko both comfortably made weight ahead of their anticipated crossroads bout.
Mibill (29-0, 23 knockouts), arrived at a ripped 167.4 pounds. Derevyanchenko (15-5, 10 KOs) was nearly identical at 167.3 pounds.
Their scheduled ten-round bout headlines an ESPN telecast Saturday evening, beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT from Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Canada.
Mbilli, rated No. 1 at 168 by The Ring, recently stopped Mark Heffron in just 40 seconds on May 25 in Shawnigan, Canada. The win was his third straight inside the distance for the 2016 Olympic quarterfinalist for France.
A much stiffer challenge is expected from Derevyanchenko, a 2008 Olympian for Ukraine now based in Brooklyn.
The 38-year-old former title challenger pushed Daniel Jacobs, Gennadiy Golovkin and Jaime Munguia to the brink in ultimately losing efforts. He also fell short in a title bid versus Jermall Charlo and in a Dec. 2021 upset defeat to Carlos Adames.
Rebounding heavyweight Arslanbek Makhmudov (19-1, 18 KOs) tipped the scales at 260 pounds. He faces Italy’s Guido Vianello (12-2-1, 10 KOs), a 2016 Olympian who weighed 245.8 pounds.
Rising super middleweight contender Osleys Iglesias (11-0, 10 KOs), No. 3 at 168, faces Ghana’s Sena Agbeko in a ten-round bout. Iglesias, a Cuban southpaw based in Berlin, weighed 169.3 pounds. Agbeko (28-3, 22 KOs), who now lives in Antioch, Tennessee, was 168.7 pounds. Their contest was contracted at 170 pounds.
Abdullah Mason (14-0, 12 KOs) fights for the fourth time this year and second in the past six weeks. The unbeaten Ohio native weighed 136 pounds, while Mike Ohan Jr. (19-2, 9 KOs) was 136.7 pounds. They meet in a scheduled eight-round lightweight battle.
Quebec’s Leila Beaudoin (11-1, 1 KO) was 129.7 pounds, while and Bolivian former title challenger Lizbeth Crespo (15-7, 4 KOs) weighed 129.2 pounds. Their junior lightweight bout is scheduled for ten two-minute rounds.
Promising 24-year-old southpaw Thomas Chabot (10-0, 8 KOs) and Argentina’s Matias Ezequiel Guenemil (10-3-1, 5 KOs) each weighed 128.6 pounds. Their junior lightweight fight is scheduled for eight rounds.
